Abstract
This article presents a research project which was implemented between Oct. 2007 and Aug. 2008 by the Universities of Vienna (Centre for Translation Studies) and Graz (Department of Translation Studies) in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Asylum Office. The project comprised two subprojects: (1) Development of a Database for Interpreters in Asylum Interviews (AsylTerm), and (2) Information Flows in Asylum Proceedings in Austria. In this paper, the authors outline the objectives of AsylTerm and discuss the conceptual and methodological background of the database, the design of the data model as well as technological aspects and problems related to implementing the database. The database is now available online and currently contains entries in German, Arabic, English, Russian and Serbian. The authors call for further research aiming at developing specialised data models for terminology management in community interpreting settings.
